Originally from north London, Natalie always wanted to create. As a little girl she had dreams of living life in a New York loft apartment; the impoverished artist! Nowadays Natalie lives and creates in Colchester, a place she describes as her “third or forth salad days”.

The city is fizzing with creativity, from musicians and poets, through to actors, writers and artists. It’s a collective of people sharing their creativity and supporting each other.

Natalie has and still suffers with her mental health. Her art and the compulsion to create helps bring balance to periods of anxiety, while spending time with her peers in spaces where creative people can go to perform, chat, eat and drink lots of coffee!

We captured photographs at Natalie’s home, mainly in the spot where she creates: her garden shed. An oasis of cosy calm, Natalie’s shed is her space for finding inspiration, exploring new ideas and creating her art.

Natalie’s artistic vision adorns one wall. A piece of art in its own right, the vision describes where she’s been and where she wants to go artistically. But at the heart of it all is the community in Colchester; her friends and fellow creatives that support each other and keep the fizz alive and kicking.
